Personal bio:

Began rowing by chance in 1994 when he had trials at his school, Southland Boys High in New Zealand. He was a rugby player at the time as Southland High was a big rugby school, and four of his school rowing crew went on to play professional rugby, one playing for the All Blacks. Bruce, however, continued with rowing and in 1998 he went on to represent New Zealand U19. He won National titles in the double scull from 1997 – 2001. He joined the University Of Otago and was involved in the University Blues in 2000-2003 and the New Zealand Universities eight between 2001 and 2003 winning it in 2002, 2003. He moved to Australia in 2004 where he worked in property development for the year, he rowed for the University of Queensland and the Queensland Academy of Sport. He was 2nd in the elite single Queensland State Championships in 2005. He had planned to come to England for a long time and enrolled at Oxford earlier this year to study and to continue his rowing. He is here as a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholar.
