Canadian Kip McDaniel said he doesn’t want a repeat of the
‘horrendous’ experience in last year’s Boat Race, when he was a
member of losing Light Blue crew that lost out to Oxford.
The 25-year-old is back in the Cambridge Blue Boat again for the 2007 Boat
Race, which is sponsored by Xchanging.
And he’s determined not to end up on the losing side again.
“After Barnes Bridge last year we started to realise it wasn’t going to
happen on the day for us, but we still gave it our all,” said McDaniel,
who is studying for a BA in Land Economy at Cambridge University.
“We had failed in our group’s only goal, and that was horrendous.
Before you’ve done it you really can’t know how bad it feels to lose
the Boat Race.
“I’m glad to be back to race again, but there’s no way we want that
feeling again,” he added.
And McDaniel said he has a better feeling about the 2007 Light Blue Boat.
“I’m more pleased with the feel of it than last year’s crew,” he
said. “It’s coming together well. It’s a good rhythm at all points
and it’s carrying up to the high rates. That’s the only thing that
matters.”
The 2007 Boat Race – the 153rd in the series – gets underway art 4.30pm
on Saturday (7th April).
